Terms & Conditions 1. Driving Licence and Eyesight The learner must hold a current, valid driving licence (provisional or full), which must be produced on or in advance of their first lesson, if no licence is produced the lesson will not go ahead and you will be charged for the lesson time.. The learner must be able to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 metres (i.e. 67 feet - about 5 car lengths) with prescribed visual aids (i.e. Contact lenses or glasses) if normally worn. Your driving instructor reserves the right to withhold lessons if they suspect that you are not legally entitled to drive. 2. Payments BACS Payments for lessons must be made 24hrs in advance of the lesson or when accepting the lesson appointment time. At this point a binding agreement is made between yourself and the instructor. The reference on your payment should have the name and date of lesson. Cash Payment on the day is to be made before the start of the lesson, please ensure you have the correct fee as limited change is carried by the instructor. 3. Lesson Cancellation / Postponement When you book lessons you will receive confirmation from your instructor of the booking via email or by text, this becomes a contract for services and you are then required to give a minimum of 48 hours’ notice to the instructor for any lessons cancelled or postponed. Failure to do this will result in the right to charge for lost time at the normal hourly rate as indicated on the 'prices' page of the website. All prices can be seen on the website http://www.alanjohnson-som.com/prices.html . Your instructor reserves the right to postpone lessons if he feels that the weather or road conditions are unsuitable or dangerous. Any lessons postponed will be rearranged at a mutually agreed time. The instructor cannot be held responsible for any costs incurred as a result of him having to postpone any lessons for whatever reason. 4. Driving under the Influence of drink or drugs To ensure the safety of you, your instructor and other road users, your instructor reserves the right to cancel any lesson if they suspect you are under the influence of drugs and / or alcohol. If this occurs the full training fee for the period in question will be lost or charged. If you are taking medication that may affect your ability to drive safely, please inform your instructor before taking any lesson. If you are unsure please ask. 5. Comfort and Safety In the interests of comfort, hygiene and safety, you are advised to wear clean clothing which does not restrict movement and suitable footwear. Dirty work clothes/overalls etc. will not be permitted in the training vehicle. 6. Punctuality It is in your own interest to arrive on time for your lesson. Your instructor would normally wait for a maximum of 10 minutes before the lesson would be abandoned and the lesson fee lost or charged. A reciprocal waiting time may become necessary if your instructor is delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Any lesson time lost as a result of this would be made up by the instructor either at the end of the normal lesson time if possible or at a later date. 7. Driving Test Booking Your Driving test will normally be booked by the student, this is a contract between client and DVSA. Before you book your own test you will need to liaise with your instructor to guarantee availability of them and their vehicle. The cost for booking a driving test with DVSA is currently £62.00. 8. Test Vehicle The instructor has the right to withhold their vehicle for test if they do not think you are at test standard or in the interests of public safety if, in their opinion, your driving is actually or potentially dangerous. The test vehicle will be checked prior to test to ensure it is legal to use. The instructor cannot be held responsible in the event of a mechanical breakdown prior to, or actually on test. All efforts will be made to source a replacement vehicle prior to test in the event of mechanical problems if sufficient time is available. Test day will be charged at the rate of 2.0 hours unless more time is requested by the learner. 9. Test Cancellation if you wish to cancel your test DVSA require 3 working days notice. Failure to provide the required notice will result in the loss of your test fee (£62.00). Your instructor cannot be held responsible for any postponement or cancellation of tests by you or the DVSA. If DVSA cancel your test they will rearrange another test day at no cost to you. 10. Personal belongings The instructor accepts no responsibility for any damage or marking of clothing when conducting training, especially Show me / Tell me questions. Gloves will be provided for the trainee's use. The Instructor accepts no responsibility for any property left in the training vehicle by the trainee. Mobile phones must be switched off or set to silent mode prior to starting the lesson. 11. Personal Data The only data held by the school of motoring will be contact details, i.e Phone number and/or email address to enable contact between client and instructor. This information is not given to any other parties and is only used for the purpose of contacting you in regards to your driving lessons. By agreeing to lessons you agree to the terms & conditions.
